God is the Lord, and He revealed Himself to us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. [SAAS]

Στίχ. αʹ. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ ἐπικαλεῖσθε τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιον αὐτοῦ.

Verse 1: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His holy name.

Στίχ. βʹ. Πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐκύκλωσάν με, καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι Κυρίου ἠμυνάμην αὐτούς.

Verse 2: All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I defended myself against them.

Στίχ. γʹ. Παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν.

Verse 3: And this came about from the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

Ἡ τοῦ στόματός σου καθάπερ πυρσὸς ἐκλάμψασα χάρις, τὴν οίκουμένην ἐφώτισεν· ἀφιλαργυρίας τῷ κόσμῳ θησαυροὺς ἐναπέθετο· τὸ ὕψος ἡμῖν τῆς ταπεινοφροσύνης ὑπέδειξεν. Ἀλλὰ σοῖς λόγοις παιδεύων, Πάτερ Ἰωάννη Χρυσόστομε, πρέσβευε τῷ Λόγῳ Χριστῷ τῷ Θεῷ, σωθῆναι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

The grace that from your mouth shone forth like a torch illumined the universe. It deposited in the world the treasures of the absence of avarice. It showed us the height that is attained by humility. Now you instruct us by your words, Father John Chrysostom. Intercede with Christ God, the Word himself, entreating Him to save our souls. [SD]

Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

In the wisdom of God you were fully versed, * and the grace of eloquence you received from Him. * Then brightly you shone on all, * much like gold that is purified. * And you preached the dogma of the one God in Trinity, * and with your words you shot down the error of avarice. * Therefore you were zealous to censure the Empress; * and you were unjustly sent into exile from your flock, * blessed Saint John Chrysostom. * Intercede with Christ our God * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who with longing observe your holy memory. Σκεῦος ἔνθεον τῆς Ἐκκλησίας, πλοῦτος ἄσυλος τῆς εὐσεβείας, ἀνεδείχθης Ἱεράρχα Χρυσόστομε, ἐν ἀπαθείᾳ φαιδρύνας τὸν βίον σου, τοῖς δεομένοις ἐπαντλήσας τὸν ἔλεον, Πάτερ Ὅσιε, Χριστὸν τὸν Θεὸν ἱκέτευε, δωρήσασθαι ἡμῖν τὸ μέγα ἔλεος.

You were shown to be a holy vessel * of the Church of Christ, O righteous Father, * and the safe and secure wealth of true belief; * and with dispassion you embellished your way of life, * and you dispensed care and mercy to those in need. * Holy Chrysostom, to Christ our God pray fervently, * beseeching Him to grant us His great mercy. Τὸν λειμῶνα τῶν λόγων τῶν θεοπνεύστων Γραφῶν, τὸν ἡμᾶς ὁδηγοῦντα πρὸς τὴν μετάνοιαν, τὸν τοὺς ποικίλους πειρασμοὺς ὑπομείναντα, τὸν Χρυσόστομον πιστοί, ὡς διδαχθέντες ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ τιμήσωμεν κατὰ χρέος· πρεσβεύει γὰρ τῷ Κυρίω, ἐλεηθῆναι τὰς ψυχὰς ἡμῶν.

To that meadow of God-inspired words of holy Writ, * to the one who has guided us to repentance, * to the man who has endured trials of every kind, * Saint John Chrysostom, who taught us, believers, let us give * honor and praise as is worthy. * He intercedes with the Savior, to have mercy on our souls. The unauthorized synod’s overt hostility * and the furious Empress’s animosity * were unable to extinguish the virtue in you; * but in the fire of the trials being tested like gold, * you now entreat without ceasing * the all-holy Trinity, * for the sake of which you struggled ardently. [SD]

From my youth, many passions war against me. O my Savior, I implore You, uphold me and save me. [GOASD] (2)

By the Holy Spirit every soul is animated, and when purified, it is mystically uplifted and brightened by the triune Godhead. [GOASD]

From the Holy Spirit the streams of grace well forth; they water all creation, so that life be engendered. [GOASD]

When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
