Kathisma II.

For the Apostles.

Mode 2. As the Mother of God.

Εὐσπλαγχνίας ὑπάρχουσα.

When for mercy’s sake God made himself poor, * the Savior sent you out into the world to enrich it. * Preaching in your poverty, you showed to all * that heavenly riches are available. * Through you, O Apostles, we became rich in godly faith; * and with joy we sing your praise * and solemnly keep your sacred memory. [GOASD]

Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament shows the creation of His hands.

Mode 2. As the Mother of God.

Εὐσπλαγχνίας ὑπάρχουσα.

The inspired Apostles of the Lord, * as Disciple and the eyewitnesses of God’s Wisdom, * by the simplicity of their preaching style * disparaged the fallacious philosophies * of sages and orators, while wisely enlightening * all the nations to extol * the Creator and only Master of all. [GOASD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

Mode 2.

O Mother of God, you are the helper of those in trouble, the defender of the oppressed. You give hope to those in despair, and you cure incurable diseases, O all-lauded Theotokos. We pray you implore the Lord on our behalf. [GOASD]

Kathisma III.

For St. Nicholas.

Mode 2. In the pools of your blood.

Τοῖς τῶν αἱμάτων σου.

You, O Saint Nicholas, fully illuminate * all of the earth with the rays of your miracles. * The gloom of afflictions you terminate, * driving away the attacks that endanger us. * For you are a most ardent guardian. [SD]

O Immaculate, you alone bore God without seed, and after the amazing childbirth you continued in chastity. I fall down before you and cry out with fear and faith: Save me from passions and grievous illnesses and from all necessity. [SD]

READER

Lord, have mercy. (3)

Glory. Both now.

Psalm 50 (51).

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy; and according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgression. Wash me thoroughly from my lawlessness and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my lawlessness, and my sin is always before me. Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. You shall make me hear joy and gladness; my bones that were humbled shall greatly rejoice. Turn Your face from my sins, and blot out all my transgressions. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your guiding Spirit. I will teach transgressors Your ways, and the ungodly shall turn back to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall greatly rejoice in Your righteousness. O Lord, You shall open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For if You desired sacrifice, I would give it; You will not be pleased with whole burnt offerings. A sacrifice to God is a broken spirit, a broken and humbled heart God will not despise. Do good, O Lord, in Your good pleasure to Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built; then You will be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, with offerings and whole burnt offerings; then shall they offer young bulls on Your altar. We pray you, since you speak to the Lord with confidence, to save us from all calamity, so that we may salute you and cry aloud: Rejoice, our Father and Pastor! [SD]

Oikos.

An Angel among men were you, O God-bearing Saint, and from earth you reached the heavens. And seeing how you vied with the bodiless hosts, O devout one, I am astounded and with awe I cry out to you such salutations: [SD]

Rejoice! Inerrant rule for monastics. Rejoice! Meadow of virtue where souls are nourished.

Rejoice! Intercessor for souls that never fails. Rejoice! Dancer who abides with angelic hosts.

Rejoice! You increased the flock of monastics. Rejoice! You preserved them in Eden.

Rejoice! With God’s help, you provided sufficient bread. Rejoice! You expelled the audacity of the demons.

Rejoice! Ever-flowing spring of miracles. Rejoice! Guarantee of future delight.

Young men and maidens, elders with younger, let them praise the Lord’s name, for His name alone is exalted.

His thanksgiving is in earth and heaven. And He shall exalt the horn of His people.

A hymn for all His saints, for the children of Israel, a people who draw near to Him.

Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of His holy ones.

Let Israel be glad in Him who made him, and let the children of Zion greatly rejoice in their King.

You have magnified the names of the chief Apostles, O Savior, throughout the world. They learned the sacred mysteries of heaven; they granted healings to those on earth, and their shadows alone cured the illnesses. He who was a fisherman did miracles, and the son of the Jews theologized on the dogmas of grace. Through them, grant Your great mercy unto us, O compassionate Lord. [SD]

Verse: We were filled with Your mercy in the morning, and in all our days we greatly rejoiced and were glad; gladden us in return for the days You humbled us, for the years we saw evil things. And behold Your servants and Your works, and guide their sons. [SAAS]

Pressed by war on every side because of unrighteous deeds, we flee for refuge unto You who indeed are God. Hence we present to You the words of Your Disciples and say: Save us, O Master, we are perishing. We pray You once again to show our enemies that You guard Your people and You save them from perils, by the intercessions of the Apostles, overlooking sins with great benevolence. Glory to You, O Lord. [SD]

Verse: And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the works of our hands. [SAAS]
