Hail, gate of the Lord, through which no man has passed! * Wall and shelter of all who rely on you, rejoice! * Port and haven undisturbed by any tempest, rejoice! * You gave birth to your Creator and God in the flesh, * ever remaining a virgin. * Never cease interceding for us who worship and extol your Son. Psalm 118 is recited in two stanzas. The reader begins reading up to v. 93 (“I will never forget…,” which is sung three times. Then the priest does the litany for the deceased. After the exclamation, the reader resumes reading, from v. 94 (“I am Yours…”) until the end, at which point v. 175 and v. 176 are joined (“My soul shall live… I went astray…”) and sung three times, followed immediately by the Evlogetaria for the Dead. Then the priest repeats the litany for the deceased. After that, the hymns of the second kathisma are sung. In the parishes, where the Psalm is typically not read, the hymns of the first kathisma are immediately followed by the Evlogetaria for the Dead; then the litany for the deceased is done, once, followed by the he hymns of the second kathisma.

The holy Martyrs competed on the earth, endured exposure to the air, were delivered to the fire, and the water received them. To them belong the words, “We went through fire and water, and You led us into a refreshing place.” By their intercessions, O God, have mercy on us. [GOASD]
