Θεοτόκε Ἀειπάρθενε, τὴν ἁγίαν σοῦ Σκέπην, διʼ ἧς περισκέπεις, τοὺς εἰς σὲ ἐλπίζοντας, κραταιὰν τῷ Ἔθνει σου καταφυγὴν ἐδωρήσω· ὅτι ὡς πάλαι καὶ νῦν θαυμαστῶς ἡμᾶς ἔσωσας, ὡς νοητὴ νεφέλη, τὸν σὸν λαὸν περιβαλοῦσα. Remembering our all-holy, immaculate, most blessed, and glorious Lady, the Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole life to Christ our God.

Against You only have I sinned and done evil in Your sight; that You may be justified in Your words, and overcome when You are judged. For behold, I was conceived in transgressions, and in sins my mother bore me. Behold, You love truth; You showed me the unknown and secret things of Your wisdom. You shall sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; You shall wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow. Ὥσπερ νεφέλη ἀγλαῶς ἐπισκιάζουσα, τῆς Ἐκκλησίας τὰ πληρώματα Πανάχραντε, ἐν τῇ πόλει πάλαι ὤφθης τῇ Βασιλίδι. Ἀλλʼ ὡς σκέπη τοῦ λαοῦ σου καὶ ὑπέρμαχος, περισκέπασον ἡμᾶς ἐκ πάσης θλίψεως, τοὺς κραυγάζοντας· Χαῖρε Σκέπη ὁλόφωτε.

You were observed to be a cloud that, glowing splendidly, * was overshadowing the Church’s people, long ago * in the imperial city, O all-pure Virgin. * Inasmuch as you protect us as our champion, * from all kinds of tribulations keep us safe and sound, * as we cry aloud: Rejoice, luminous protective veil! [GOASD]

Ἄνωθεν ἐφαπλοῦσα, τὴν ἁγίαν σοῦ Σκέπην, Παρθένε Θεοτόκε Μαρία, σκέπεις καὶ σῴζεις τὸν σὸν λαόν, καθʼ ὥραν σε Ἁγνὴ ἐπιβοώμενον· νῦν δὲ σου τὰ θαυμάσια, εὐγνωμόνως ὑμνεῖ κραυγάζων·

All-holy Theotokos Virgin Mary, from heaven you lay your holy veil of protection on your people, whom you protect and save, O pure one, as we invoke your name hourly. Now as we sing with gratitude extolling your wonders, we cry out: [GOASD]

Χαῖρε τοῦ κόσμου ἡ Σωτηρία· Χαῖρε Ἑλλάδος ἡ προστασία.

Rejoice! You are the world’s salvation. Rejoice! You protect all Christian nations!

Χαῖρε τῶν Ἀγγέλων παράδοξον θέαμα· Χαῖρε τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἀκλόνητον ἔρεισμα.

Rejoice! Unusual sight for angelic hosts. Rejoice! Immovable prop of the human race.

Χαῖρε Μήτηρ Ἀειπάρθενος τοῦ Παντάνακτος Χριστοῦ· Χαῖρε σκέπη καὶ ἀντίληψις τοῦ λαοῦ σου τοῦ πιστοῦ.

Rejoice! Ever-virgin Mother of Christ the Ruler over all. Rejoice! Helper and protector of all your people who believe.

Χαῖρε ὅτι ἐφάνης σκέπουσα τὸ σὸν Ἔθνος· Χαῖρε ὅτι παρέχεις νίκας τῷ στρατοπέδῳ.

Rejoice! You have appeared when protecting Christian nations. Rejoice! You have secured victories on fields of battle.

Χαῖρε πηγὴ πλουσίας χρηστότητος· Χαῖρε λαμπὰς Θεοῦ ἀγαθότητος.

Rejoice! O fount of rich generosity! Rejoice! O lamp of divine humanity!

Χαῖρε διʼ ἧς τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἐκνικῶμεν· Χαῖρε πρὸς ἣν καθʼ ἑκάστην βοῶμεν·

Rejoice! Through you we defeat adversaries. Rejoice! To you every day we sing loudly:

On October 1, we remember the holy Protection of our all-holy Lady Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary.

On this day we commemorate the holy Apostle Ananias.

On this day we commemorate our devout father Romanos, the Poet of Kontakia.

Τῇ αὐτῇ ἡμέρᾳ μνήμη τῶν ἁγίων Μαρτύρων Μιχαὴλ ἐκ τῆς Μονῆς Ζώβης, καὶ τῶν σὺν αὐτῷ λϚʹ ἁγίων μοναχῶν, τῶν μαρτυρησάντων ἐν τῇ ἐνορίᾳ Σεβαστουπόλεως.

On this day we commemorate the holy martyrs Michael of the Monastery of Zovi and with him thirty-six holy monks who were martyred in the parish of Sevastoupolis.

Devout St. John Koukouzelis, the sweet voice, who lived an ascetic life in the environs of Great Lavra on Athos, reposed in peace.

Ὁ ὅσιος Γρηγόριος ὁ Δομέστικος, ὁ ἐν τῇ αὐτῇ Μεγίστη Λαύρᾳ τοῦ Ἄθω ἀσκήσας καὶ ἓν χρυσοῦν νόμισμα παρὰ τῆς Θεοτόκου λαβών, ἐν εἰρήνῃ τελειοῦται.

Devout St. Gregory, the domestikos, who lived an ascetic life at Great Lavra on Athos and received a gold coin from the Theotokos, reposed in peace.

The superessential God * made His abode in a living house, the womb * of the pure Theotokos. * And she was seen in her famous house of old. * She unfolded her garment and protective veil * and wondrously covered all those who rely on her. [GOASD]

Angels saw the veil of the Theotokos; * they were amazed exceedingly, * how she protects and delivers * those who rely on her assistance.
