Zaburi ya 103 (104).
Psalm 103 (104).
Ee nafsi yangu, umhimidi Bwana. Ee Bwana, jinsi yalivyo mengi matendo yako! Kwa hekima umevifanya vyote pia. Dunia imejaa mali zako. Bahari iko kule, kubwa na upana, ndimo mlimo viendavyo visivyohesabika, viumbe hai vidogo kwa vikubwa. Ndimo zipitamo merikebu, ndimo alimo lewiathani uliyemwumba acheze humo. Hao wote wanakungoja Wewe, uwape chakula chao kwa wakati wake. Wewe huwapa, wao wanakiokota; Wewe waukunjua mkono wako, wao wanashiba mema; Wewe wauficha uso wako, wao wanafadhaika; waiondoa pumzi yao, wanakufa, na kuyarudia mavumbi yao. Waipeleka roho yako, wanaumbwa, nawe waufanya upya uso wa nchi. Utukufu wa Bwana na udumu milele; Bwana na ayafurahie matendo yake. Aitazama nchi, inatetemeka; aigusa milima, inatoka moshi. Nitamwimbia Bwana maadamu ninaishi; nitamshangilia Mungu wangu nikiwa hai; kutafakari kwangu na kuwe kutamu kwake; mimi nitamfurahia Bwana. Wenye dhambi waangamizwe katika nchi, watendao ubaya wasiwepo tena. Ee nafsi yangu, umhimidi Bwana.
Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are magnified exceedingly; You clothe Yourself with thanksgiving and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain; You are He who covers His upper chambers with water, who makes the clouds His means of approach, who walks on the wings of the winds, who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire. He established the earth on its stable foundation; it shall not be moved unto ages of ages. The deep like a garment is His covering; the waters shall stand upon the mountains; at Your rebuke they shall flee; at the sound of Your thunder, they shall be afraid. The mountains rise up, and the plains sink down to the place You founded for them. You set a boundary they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth. You are He who sends springs into the valley; the waters shall pass between the mountains; they shall give drink to all the wild animals of the field; the wild asses shall quench their thirst; the birds of heaven shall dwell beside them; they shall sing from the midst of the rocks. You are He who waters the mountains from His higher places; the earth shall be satisfied with the fruit of Your works. You are He who causes grass to grow for the cattle, and the green plant for the service of man, to bring forth bread from the earth; and wine gladdens the heart of man, to brighten his face with oil; and bread strengthens man’s heart. The trees of the plain shall be full of fruit, the cedars of Lebanon, which You planted; there the sparrows shall make their nests; the house of the heron takes the lead among them. The high mountains are for the deer; the cliff is a refuge for the rabbits. He made the moon for seasons; the sun knows its setting. You established darkness, and it was night, wherein all the wild animals of the forest will prowl about; the young lions roar and snatch their prey, and seek their food from God. The sun arises, and they are gathered together; and they shall be put to bed in their dens. Man shall go out to his work and to his labor until evening. O Lord, Your works shall be magnified greatly; You made all things in wisdom; the earth was filled with Your creation. There is this great and spacious sea: the creeping things are there without number; the living things are there, both small and great; there the ships pass through; there is this dragon You formed to play therein. All things wait upon You, that You may give them food in due season. When You give it to them, they shall gather it; when You open Your hand, all things shall be filled with Your goodness. But when You turn Your face away, they shall be troubled; when You take away their breath, they shall die and return again to their dust. You shall send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Let the glory of the Lord be forever; the Lord shall be glad in His works; He looks upon the earth and makes it tremble; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing to my God as long as I exist; may my words be pleasing to Him, and I shall be glad in the Lord. May sinners cease from the earth, and the lawless, so as to be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul.
Jua latambua kuchwa kwake; Wewe hufanya giza kukawa usiku,
The sun knows its setting. You established darkness, and it was night.

Mstari: 10. (Zab. 141/142)
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, a door of enclosure about my lips.
Incline not my heart to evil words, to make excuses in sins.
With men who work lawlessness; and I will not join with their choice ones.
The righteous man shall correct me with mercy, and he shall reprove me; but let not the oil of the sinner anoint my head.
For my prayer shall be intense in the presence of their pleasures. Their judges are swallowed up by the rock.
They shall hear my words, for they are pleasant. As a clod of ground is dashed to pieces on the earth, so their bones were scattered beside the grave.
For my eyes, O Lord, O Lord, are toward You; in You I hope; take not my soul away.
Keep me from the snares they set for me, and from the stumbling blocks of those who work lawlessness.
Sinners shall fall into their own net; I am alone, until I escape.
I cried to the Lord with my voice, with my voice I prayed to the Lord.
I shall pour out my supplication before Him; I shall declare my affliction in His presence.
When my spirit fainted within me, then You knew my paths.
For on the way I was going, they hid a trap for me.
I looked on my right, and saw there was no one who knew me.
Refuge failed me, and there was no one who cared for my soul.
I cried to You, O Lord; I said, “You are my hope, my portion in the land of the living.”
Attend to my supplication, for I was humbled exceedingly.
Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I.
Bring my soul out of prison to give thanks to Your name, O Lord.
The righteous shall wait for me, until You reward me.
Ee Bwana, toka vilindini nimekulilia; Bwana,
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice.
Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

When You were transfigured on a high mountain, O Savior, having with You those paramounts of Your Disciples, You shone forth with glory. Your intention was to show that those who attain the height of virtue will also be counted worthy of divine glory. Moses and Elias conversed with Christ, to show that He is the Lord of the living and the dead, and that the One who spoke through the Law and the Prophets of old was God. It was to Him that the voice of the Father bore witness from the bright cloud saying, “Listen to Him.” He is the One who despoiled Hades through the Cross, and who granted the dead eternal life. [SD]

That Mount, which once was dark and smoky, is now revered and holy, for Your feet stood on it, O Lord. The mystery, which was hidden before all ages, was revealed in latter days by Your terrific Transfiguration, to Peter, John and James. They could not bear the shining ray of Your face nor the radiance of Your garments, so they fell on their faces, weighed down to the ground. In a state of ecstasy, they marveled as they watched Moses and Elias speaking with You about what was going to happen to You. Then the voice of the Father bore witness to You and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him, who also grants the world the great mercy.” [SD]

Prefiguring Your Resurrection, O Christ God, You took Your three Disciples with You, Peter, James, and John, and You went up Mount Tabor. As You were transfigured, O Savior, Mount Tabor was covered in light. O Logos, Your Disciples threw themselves to the ground, unable to look at the form which no one can see. Angels served with fear and trembling, the heavens were in awe, and the earth shuddered; for they saw here on earth the Lord of glory. [SD]

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone and the law and commandments I wrote, that you may teach them.” So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and they went up to the mountain of God. But he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Indeed, Aaron and Hur are with you. If any man has a difficulty, let him go to them.” Then Moses and Joshua went up the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. Now the glory of God descended on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. Then on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. The sight of the Lord’s glory was like a burning fire on the top of the mountain before the children of Israel. So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up the mountain; and he was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. [SAAS]

Thus the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Then he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle. Then Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you above all, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, reveal Yourself to me, that I may see You clearly and find grace in Your sight, and know this great nation is Your people.” So He said, “I Myself will go before you and give you rest.” Then he said to Him, “If You Yourself do not go up with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So both I and Your people shall be glorified beyond all the nations on the earth.” The Lord then said to Moses, “I will also do this thing you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you above all.” Moses replied, “Reveal Yourself to me.” Then God said, “I will pass before you in My glory, and I will proclaim My name, the Lord, before you. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man can see My face and live.” Moreover, the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me: you shall stand on the rock. So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.” Then Moses rose early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai as the Lord commanded him. Now the Lord descended in the cloud; and He stood with him there, and he called upon the name of the Lord. Then the Lord passed before his face and proclaimed, “The Lord God, compassionate, merciful, longsuffering, abounding in mercy and true.” So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the ground and worshiped. In those days, Elijah came to Beersheba of Judah, where he left his servant. But Elijah himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat under a juniper tree. Then he lay down and slept under a tree. Unexpectedly, someone touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” Then Elijah looked, and there by his head was a cake made of wheat and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. Again the angel of the Lord came back a second time, touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is a great many days for you.” So he arose, ate and drank; and he went with the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, as far as Mount Horeb. There he went into a cave and rested. Behold, the word of the Lord came to him and said to him, “Go out tomorrow and stand on the mountain before the Lord; and behold, the Lord will pass by, and before the Lord, a great and powerful wind will be rending the mountains and shattering the rocks; but the Lord will not be in the wind. After the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord will not be in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there will be a fire, but the Lord will not be in the fire. After the fire, there will be a sound of a gentle breeze, and the Lord will be there.” So when Elijah heard this, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Then the Lord said to him, “Go and return on your way to the desert of Damascus. And you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah as prophet in your place.” [SAAS]

He who of old conversed with Moses on Mount Sinai through symbols, saying, “I am that I am, the One who is,” was transfigured on Mount Tabor today for His Disciples to see. And since He had assumed human nature in himself, He showed them the original beauty of the image. He presented Moses and Elias as witnesses of this grace, and He let them share in the great joy, prefiguring what would follow through the Cross, namely the glorious and saving Resurrection. [SD]

Verse: The heavens belong to You, and the earth is Yours. [SAAS]
When David, that ancestor of God, foresaw in the Spirit a long time ago that You, the Only-begotten Son, would visit mankind in the flesh, he invited all creation to celebrate. And he cried out prophetically, “Tabor and Hermon shall greatly rejoice in Your name.” And now, O Savior, as You mount that Mountain with Your Disciples, and as You are transfigured there, You have made our nature that was darkened in Adam to shine brightly again, transforming it into the glory and radiance of Your Divinity. Therefore we cry out to You: O Creator of all, glory to You, O Lord! [SD]

Verse: Tabor and Hermon shall greatly rejoice in Your name. [SAAS]
When Your foremost Apostles saw Your illimitable illumination and Your unapproachable Divinity on the Mountain of Your Transfiguration, O unoriginate Christ, they were changed by divine ecstasy. As a bright cloud shone all around them, they heard the Father’s voice confirming the mystery of Your incarnation, that even after becoming human, You are one and the same Only-begotten Son and Savior of the world. [SD]

Mode pl. 2.
Today on Mount Tabor, O Lord, You showed to Your foremost Disciples, Peter, James and John, the glory of Your divine appearance. For they watched as Your clothes were shining white as the light, and Your face shone brighter than the sun. But they could not bear to look and see Your unbearable shining, and they fell on the ground. Then they heard a voice bearing witness from above, “This is My beloved Son, who has come to the world to save humanity.” [SD]
