ON SUNDAY EVENING

At, Lord, I have cried, Prosomia.

Stichera for the Master.

δʹ.

Mode pl. 4. What a paradoxal.

I carry on so indifferently! Alas! I squander the time * of my life in uncertainty, * for I have not taken stock * of my sins, which are numerous, * nor have I pondered terrifying threat * of death and judgment impartial in the end. * Who will deliver me * from the condemnation to eternal fire, * unless You, O God supremely good, take pity on me. [GOASD]

Woe be to you, sorry soul of mine, for you will surely lament * at the judgment, when you recall * all your deeds, when righteous souls * are invited to enter God’s * eternal Kingdom, and you have been condemned * to endless fire on account of your misdeeds! * Sigh, weep, and run to Christ * the Redeemer, being on this side of death. * Wash away the multitude of your iniquities. [GOASD]

While the time is yet available * to you in this present life, * O my soul, fervently repent, * and as long as you are here, * come and grieve for your sins with pain, * that you might find repose on the other side, * and be redeemed from eternal punishment. * Lord, Lord compassionate, * being good, account me worthy to become * a partaker in the lot * of the elect, I pray. [SD]

Additional Stichera. For the Angels. Lord, even though.

Lord our God, hosts of incorporeals praise You and glorify You unceasingly, * as they are enjoying the beauty of Your ineffable loveliness, * and as Your tri-solar light abundantly illumines them. * Now through their guardianship, O Savior, * and their intercessions, save our souls. [GOASD]

Lord our God, all the Seraphim and Dominions, * as well as Thrones and Authorities, * and the Principalities extol You * with the Powers and Archangels too; * Angels and awesome Cherubim * present to You their hymns of praise. * And through their guardianship, O Savior, * and their intercessions, save our souls. [SD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion. What a paradoxal.

δʹ.

Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 4.

Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord.

Verse: Who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. [SAAS]

At the Aposticha.

δʹ.

Aposticha. Mode pl. 4. For compunction.

Angels unceasingly extol You the King and Lord and Master. But I, like the Publican, am bowed as I implore You: O God, be gracious to me and save me. [SD]

Verse: I lift my eyes to You, who dwell in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the maidservant look to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God until He shall have compassion on us. [SAAS]

O soul of mine, since you are immortal, let not mundane concerns inundate you. Come to your senses, and pray to your Benefactor: “O God, be gracious to me and save me.” [SD]

Verse: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for we are greatly filled with contempt; our soul is greatly filled with it. We are a disgrace to those who prosper, and a contempt to the arrogant. [SAAS]

For the Martyrs.

Martyrs of the Lord, you sanctify every locality, and you heal every infirmity. And now we pray you to intercede that our souls be delivered from the snares of the enemy. [SD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion. What a paradoxal.

Animate palace of God, rejoice. * Rejoice, O rational dove. * O rejoice, holy city of * your Creator. Battlement * of the faithful and refuge, rejoice; * and the protection of those who hope on you, * and their salvation, and their deliverance. * Ladder and bridge, rejoice, * that conveys to heaven the believers all. * Ever-blessed one, rejoice. * all-holy Lady, rejoice.

ON MONDAY MORNING

MATINS

After the first Psalter reading, Kathismata.

δʹ.

For compunction. Mode pl. 4.

O Lord, I beg You look at my low condition with a compassionate expression. For my life is passing little by little, and I have not done anything to merit salvation. Therefore I implore You: O Lord, look at my low condition with a compassionate expression, and save me. [GOASD]

By conceiving the wisdom.

O my soul, keep the thought of that fearful day * in the front of your mind, and be vigilant; * and trimming your oil lamp, keep it lit with the virtues. * For you know not the day nor the hour the cry will come * to you specifically, saying, “Behold, your Bridegroom is here!” * Therefore, O my soul, always watch lest you slumber * and be left outside knocking like those five foolish maidens. * But continue in vigilance, * so that you may meet Christ God with abundant oil, and He give to you * the heavenly bridal room of His glory divine. [GOASD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion. Same Melody.

The Creator and Master of all the world, * who took flesh from your all-pure and holy womb, * made you, the all-blameless Maid, * the protectress of humanity. * For this reason all we faithful now have recourse to you, * and we ask you, O Lady, to be forgiven our offenses, * and to be delivered from eternal perdition * We pray you to rescue us from all punishments that are there. * And with faith we cry out to you: * Intercede with Christ our God * that He grant forgiveness of offenses * to those who faithfully run to you for shelter, O Bride of God [GOASD]

After the second Psalter reading, Kathismata.

As if the Judge were present, be anxious, O my soul, and keep in mind the thought of the hour of that fearful day. For the judgment is merciless to those who showed no mercy. So before the end cry aloud, “Spare me, O my Savior, for You are supremely benevolent.” [GOASD]

Like the sinful woman, I come to You to be forgiven, and instead of perfume, I offer You my heartfelt tears, O Christ God, so that You will pity me, as You did her, O Savior, and grant to me forgiveness of sins. For like her, I cry to You, “Free me from the mud of my sinful deeds!” [GOASD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion. When he perceived.

O Lady, pure, graced by God, and ever-blessed, * join with the Powers in the heavens, the Archangels, * all the Bodiless Hosts and ceaselessly petition * the Lord, who in His compassion was born from you, * entreating on our behalf that before the end * He will grant us correction and the expiation of our sins, * amendment of our way of life, * so that mercy await us all. [SD]

After the third Psalter reading, Kathismata.

For compunction. By conceiving the wisdom.

For how long will you rashly insist to live * with indifference and laziness, O my soul? * Wake up from your apathy as from sleep, O pathetic fool. * Recollect your sinful deeds and moan with anxiety, * and shudder at the thought of the verdict the Judge will pronounce. * What kind of defense will you have in that hour? * And how do you expect to be saved from the future fire, if you refuse to correct yourself? * Before the end, cry out to the Judge, * “O Savior, forgive my offenses, * for You are supremely long-suffering.” [GOASD]

For the Martyrs.

This tabernacle is splendidly illumined today with heavenly light. For herein do the armies of Angels greatly rejoice, and with them the hosts of the Righteous are cheerful, as the victorious Martyrs are commemorated. O Christ, by their supplications, send down peace and great mercy to Your world. [SD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion. Automelon.

When he perceived what had secretly been ordered, * to the abode of Joseph urgently reported * the unbodied one saying unto the Unwedded: * “The Lord who has bowed the heavens in His descent, * in you is contained completely and without change; * and beholding Him in your womb * taking the form of a slave, * astounded I cry out to you: * Rejoice, O unwedded Bride.” [SD]

Of old when the Israelite had crossed * the watery passage as if over a tract of land, * fleeing from the misery of Egypt, * he cried: “To God our Redeemer, O let us sing.” [SD]

Troparia.

Rescue me from hell fire, which I have earned * through the foul and sinful things I did, O Redeemer Christ, * and ignite instead the blessed fire * of that divine love for You in my mind and heart. [SD]

Eclipsed by the passions, I have succumbed. * I am like a dumb brute, though endowed with reason, O Lord. * Grant my soul to come back to its senses, * and by the judgments which You know, deliver me. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

Submitting to torments, the all-extolled * Martyrs showed that they had an unflinching correct intent * and love for their Savior and Creator; * and as their bodies were tortured, they won the crowns. [SD]

Compassionate Lord, rivers of the blood * from the holy bodies of Your glorious martyr saints * flowed into one stream, and by Your power * they swept away all the thorns of idolatry. [SD]

As chiefs of the holy angelic hosts, * and as ones who clearly are enjoying the sight of God, * earnestly entreat the Lord and Savior, * who is the Giver of good things, on our behalf. [SD]

O divine Master Builder of the celestial vault, * Founder of the Church and the ultimate object of desire, * only benevolent support of every believer, * in the love for You, O Lord, firmly establish me. [SD]

Ποίοις βλέψω σε τότε, Χριστὲ Σωτὴρ ὄμμασι, μίαν ἐντολὴν ἐπὶ γῆς σου, μὴ ἐργασάμενος; πῶς τῷ ἀστέκτῳ σου, παρασταθήσομαι θρόνῳ, λόγον τῶν ἀμέτρων μου, κακῶν ποιούμενος;

Each and every commandment of Yours have I disobeyed. * With what eyes will I look at You on that day, O Savior Christ? * How will I stand before * Your unbearable tribunal, * when I give account for all the evils I have done? [SD]

Most benevolent Jesus, with tender love’s open arms * receive me, who much like that famous prodigal son of old, * have also been enslaved * to the dishonorable passions, * going far away from You, Lord most beneficent. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

Ever praising the Martyrs, we say, “You were firmly fixed * on the rock of knowledge of God and eradicated thorns * of ignorance of God, * using the sword of the true faith, * and you harvested the fruits of martyrdom for Christ.” [SD]

The Prophet understood that You would be incarnate * from the Theotokos when he had considered * with divine vision, O Logos, the shaded mountain. * Afraid, he glorified Your power, O Lord. [SD]

Aposticha. Mode pl. 4. For compunction.

When I bring to mind the many terrible things I have done, and when I think about that terrifying judgment, I am overcome by trembling, and I turn to You, my benevolent God. So I pray to You, the only sinless One, do not despise me; but before the end, give compunction to my humble soul and save me. [SD]

Verse: We were filled with Your mercy in the morning, and in all our days we greatly rejoiced and were glad; gladden us in return for the days You humbled us, for the years we saw evil things. And behold Your servants and Your works, and guide their sons. [SAAS]

Give me tears, O Lord, as once You did to the sinful woman, and grant that I may wet Your feet, which freed me from the way of error, and like her to offer You, as fragrant ointment, a pure life that is built on repentance; so that I, too, may hear those cherished words of Yours: “Your faith has saved you, go in peace.” [SD]

Verse: And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the works of our hands. [SAAS]

For the Martyrs. Automelon.

What are we to call you, O holy ones? * Cherubim, inasmuch as Christ has found repose in you. * Seraphim, for without ceasing you were glorifying Him. * Or Angels, from the body you had turned away. * Or Powers, you are active doing miracles. * Your names are many, and greater are * the spiritual gifts that you received. * So intercede, we entreat you, that our souls be saved. [SD]

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

All in heaven sing your praises, O unwedded Mother who are full of grace. And we also glorify you and your incomprehensible childbirth. O Theotokos, intercede for the salvation of our souls. [SD]

δʹ.

The Beatitudes. Mode pl. 4.

Savior of the world, remember us Your servants * as upon the Cross You remembered the Robber, * only compassionate Christ, and account us worthy * of inheriting Your heavenly Rule. [SD]

Compassionate Christ, the only true physician * of our souls and bodies, I pray You cure the passions * of my soul, and in rivers of my compunction * wash them away and purify me, O Lord. [SD]

Orbiting the throne of the all-holy Godhead, * Thrones and Cherubim, Principalities, Dominions * and all the rest of the heavenly hierarchies * are glowing brightly and most sacredly. [SD]

For the Martyrs.

On fire with the ardor of love for Christ the Savior, * the Martyrs were not burned when thrown into the fire, * but rather they by divine grace consumed with fire * the thorny brambles of impiety. [SD]

Glory.

Simple Trinity, and Unity, we pray You, * Ruler most-supreme, deliver us Your servants * from the unquenchable fire; and grant us Your kingdom, * by the entreaties of Your bodiless hosts. [SD]

Καὶ νῦν.

Both now. Theotokion.

Isaiah foresaw you of old to be a volume, * in which inexplicably the finger of the Father * wrote the Logos, O Virgin filled with divine grace; * and He enrolled us in the book of life. [SD]
