ON FRIDAY EVENING
At, Lord, I have cried, Prosomia.
Stichera for the Master.
βʹ.
Mode pl. 2. That woman, who was spurned.
Save me from perdition which has been laid up. * O most righteous Judge, rescue me the convict * from the everlasting fire; O Master, I beseech You. * Make me impervious to surgings * against me, O Word of God. * Mis’rable that I am, I shudder * when I stop and consider * the multitude of my offenses, * and I fall down to You with tears and a contrite heart * humbly requesting Your mercy, O Lord. [SD]
Who would not lament me who from my lack of * self-control have broken the Lord’s commandment; * for me who instead of Paradise inhabit Hades? * Food sweet to me in its appearance * has turned into bitterness. * Unto Your glory and to Angels * have I become a stranger. * Sympathetic God, as I repent now * accept me, since You are humane and very merciful, * because of Your great mercy, O Lord. [SD]
For the Dead. Same Melody.
Additional Stichera. For the Martyrs.
They who witnessed for You, O Christ, endured many tortures, and in heaven finally received the crown of glory, that they might intercede on behalf of our souls. [SD]
The prize-winning Martyrs and citizens of heaven contended on earth and endured many tortures. By their intercessions and prayers, O Lord, preserve us all. [SD]
Your Cross, O Lord, became for the Martyrs an invincible weapon. For they saw the death awaiting them and yet foresaw the life to come, and thus by their hope in You they were strengthened. By their supplications, have mercy on us. [SD]
Glory. Both now. Theotokion.
Who would not pronounce you blest, O all-holy Virgin? Who would not sing praises of your childbirth without travail? For He who timelessly shone forth from the Father, the Only-begotten Son, did himself come forth from you the pure one, ineffably incarnated. As He was God by nature, He likewise by nature for us became man. He was not thus divided into two persons, but now is rather known in two natures without confusion. To Him pray fervently, O august and all-blessed Maid, that His mercy come upon our souls. [SD]
Prokeimenon. Grave Mode.
You are my protector, O God. Your mercy shall go before me.
Verse: Rescue me from my enemies, O God, and redeem me from those who rise up against me. [SAAS]

For the Martyrs.
Your Martyrs did not renounce You, O Lord, nor did they deviate from Your commandments. By their intercessions, have mercy on us. [SD]
For the Dead.
Verse: Blessed are they whom You have chosen and received, O Lord. [SAAS]
Your creative command was my beginning and real existence; for wishing to construct me as a living creature from both visible and invisible natures, You fashioned my body from earth, and You gave me a soul by Your divine and life-giving breath. Therefore, O Savior, give rest to Your servants, in the land of the living, where the righteous dwell. [SD]
Verse: Their souls shall dwell among good things. [SAAS]
Of old in Eden, the eating of the fruit turned out to be painful, when the serpent spat out his venom. Through Adam, death entered, and it devoured the entire human race. Then the Master came and put the dragon down, and He granted us resurrection. Let us shout to Him, “Spare us, O Savior; and to those whom You have taken grant repose with Your elect.” [SD]
Glory. Both now. Theotokion. You rose within three days.
O Christ, at the entreaties of her * who bore You, and of all the Saints, * of your Martyrs, * your Apostles, Hierarchs, * monastic Saints and Prophets, * together with the Righteous, * repose Your servants who have fallen asleep. [SD]

MATINS
After the first Psalter reading. Kathismata for the Martyrs.
βʹ.
Mode pl. 2. When the angelic powers.
The martyr athletes offered resistance in the ring, * contesting for the faith, and the tyrants tortured them. * The hosts of Incorporeals observed and were holding the victory medals. * The truly wise contestants amazed the tyrants and kings. * They overturned the devil by their confession of Christ. * O Lord, who strengthened them, glory to You. [SD]
The holy athletes endured the contest, and they received from You the medals of victory. They destroyed the machinations of the lawless, and they received the crowns of incorruption. Through them, O God, save our souls. [SD]
O Lord, the memory of Your Saints is like the Garden of Eden, for all creation greatly rejoices in it. Grant us peace and great mercy, by their intercessions. [SD]
Glory. Both now. Theotokion.
O Lord, who called the blessed Maid Your Mother, You came to the Passion of Your own will and intent. Adam You wished to seek; You therefore shone upon the Cross, saying to the Angels, “Rejoice with me together, for I have found the coin that was lost.” O Lord, You have disposed all things wisely. Glory to You. [SD]
After the second Psalter reading. Kathisma for the Martyrs.
Light always dawns for the righteous. The saints were illumined in You, and they shine like stars forever, and they extinguish the lamp of the impious. By their prayers, You will light my lamp, O Lord, and save me. [SD]
For the Dead.
Everything is truly vanity, and earthly life is a shadow and a dream. Every man stirs himself up in vain, as the Scripture says. Once we gain the world, then we attain the grave, where kings and poor dwell together. Therefore, O Christ God, grant rest to those who have passed away, since You are benevolent. [SD]
Glory. Both now. Theotokion. You are the good hope.
You are for us who are on earth * a powerful protection, * as the one who in time gave birth * in the flesh to the timeless * Son and Logos of God, O Mary Mother of God. * Now as His Mother pray * to Him in earnest with the saints, * the Martyrs and the Prophets * and the ascetic Saints, * to save those who have departed. [SD]

In the celestial chambers forevermore, * the courageous martyr saints importunely pray to You: * Grant the faithful whom You have transferred * from the earth, that they obtain eternal goods, O Christ. [SD]
After adorning with order all things, O Lord, * You made me the human being a composite animal * between greatness and humility. * Thus, O Savior, grant repose unto Your servants’ souls. [SD]
In the beginning You ordered that I should be * a citizen of Paradise and its tiller. But when I * disobeyed, then You evicted me. * Thus, O Savior, grant repose unto Your servants’ souls. [SD]

He who of old formed our own primal mother Eve * from a rib of Adam now has arrayed himself in flesh * taken from your undefiled womb, * O pure Lady. Thereby He dissolved the might of death. [SD]

You are our God, who in wisdom creates and fills all things. O Christ, You sent Prophets to prophesy Your coming, and Apostles to proclaim Your mighty works. The former prophesied Your coming, and the latter illumined the nations through baptism. Martyrs suffered and attained what they longed for; and all these, together with Your Mother, intercede with You. O God, grant rest to the souls that You have taken to yourself, and also count us worthy of Your kingdom. You are the one who endured the Cross for me who am condemned, O my Redeemer and God. [SD]
