ON SUNDAY EVENING

At, Lord, I have cried, Prosomia.

Stichera for the Master.

Sauti 2.

Mode 2. Joseph took You down.

Grant thoughts of repentance unto me; * also grant the love for contrition unto my humble soul. * Rouse me from the sleep of grave insensibility, * and the darkness of laziness * drive out from within me, * and dispel the gloom created by despondency, * so that looking up, I the wretched * might cling fast to You and according * to Your holy will proceed, O Word of God. [SD]

Christ, You are the eminently good, * singularly placable Logos, supremely tolerant. * Tender-loving Lord, I come to You and fervently pray * and cry out to You: I have sinned. * I beg You to save me. * Save me who am prodigal, in Your compassion, O God, * so that I may gratefully cry out: * Please forgive me, and I shall go on * living by Your goodness and benevolence. [GOASD]

Now do I confess to You my God * everything of which I am guilty, my sins against You in word, * deed and recollection, all do I declare to You. * I have passed the entire day * and all of my life’s time; * now I have arrived at night still full of wickedness. * Therefore, I fall down to You crying: * Master, O my Master and Savior, * I have sinned; forgive and save me, Lord my God. [SD]

Additional Stichera. For the Angels. Same Melody.

Come, and singing spiritual songs * let us now extol the commanders of the angelic hosts. * For being preeminent among the bodiless choirs, * they were both designated as * Archangels and Generals. * Foremost in the period of grace is Gabriel, * while in the Old Testament era * of the Law and prior to Moses, * prominent is Michael, the Archangels’ chief. [SD]

Utukufu. Sasa. Wimbo wa Mzazi-Mungu

Glory. Both now. Theotokion. Same Melody.

Prokimeno.

Prokeimenon. Mode pl. 4.

Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord.

Mstari

Verse: Who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God. [SAAS]

At the Aposticha.

Sauti 2.

Aposticha. Mode 2. For compunction.

Like the prodigal son, I have sinned against You, O Savior. Accept me in repentance, O Father, and have mercy on me, O God. [SD]

Mstari

Verse: I lift my eyes to You, who dwell in heaven. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hands of their masters, as the eyes of the maidservant look to the hands of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God until He shall have compassion on us. [SAAS]

With the Publican I cry unto You, O Christ my Savior: Unto me be gracious as You were unto him, and have mercy on me, O God. [SD]

Mstari

Verse: Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us, for we are greatly filled with contempt; our soul is greatly filled with it. We are a disgrace to those who prosper, and a contempt to the arrogant. [SAAS]

For the Martyrs.

The prizewinning Martyrs, who loved no earthly enjoyments, were accounted worthy of the bounties of heaven. They have become fellow citizens of the Angels. By their intercessions, O Lord, have mercy on us and save us. [SD]

Utukufu. Sasa. Wimbo wa Mzazi-Mungu

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

O impassable gate mystically sealed, blessed Virgin Theotokos: accept our supplications and present them unto your Son and God, that through you He save our souls. [SD]

ON MONDAY MORNING

MATINS

After the first Psalter reading, Kathismata.

Sauti 2.

For compunction. Mode 2.

My transgressions are like waves that crash against me, and my many offences agitate me, as if I were alone in a boat on the high seas. I pray You lead me through repentance to a tranquil harbor, O Lord, and save me. [GOASD]

O Lord, I am like that fig tree, on which there was no fruit, for I have not produced any fruits of compunction. I am fearful that I will be cut down, and I am terrified by the unquenchable fire. So I implore You, before that fateful torment, to allow me time for repentance and to save me. [GOASD]

Utukufu. Sasa. Wimbo wa Mzazi-Mungu

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

As the Mother of God, you are the source * of compassion. O Lady, count us worthy of pity. * Look upon us graciously, though we have sinned. * Demonstrate your power, as you always do. * For, placing our hope in you, * we cry out, Rejoice, to you, * as did Gabriel of old, * as the chief commander of the bodiless hosts. [SD]

After the second Psalter reading, Kathismata.

David said, “Have mercy on me.” And likewise I cry out, “I have sinned, O Savior. I pray You blot out my sins, through my repentance, and have mercy on me.” [GOASD]

For the two sins he committed, David grieved and cried, “Have mercy on me, O God; have mercy on me!” And I, for my countless transgressions, pray to You. He wet his couch with many tears, and I cannot produce a single teardrop. I am lost! So I entreat You: “Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your great mercy!” [GOASD]

Utukufu. Sasa. Wimbo wa Mzazi-Mungu

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

We magnify you, O Theotokos, and we cry out: Rejoice! You are the gate that was shut; and through you Paradise of long ago was opened to humanity. [SD]

After the third Psalter reading, Kathismata.

For compunction.

As the Mother of God.

O all-holy incorporeal hosts, * we implore you to pray for us to our good God and Master, * that He spare us in that hour on Judgment Day, * and release us from the bitter punishment. * We earnestly run to you * for protection from the every threat * of demons and from all * the sinful passions that darken our souls. [GOASD]

For the Martyrs.

The holy Martyrs had You, who covers heaven with clouds, as a cover in the world, and thus they endured when the villains tortured them, and they negated idolatry. By their intercessions for us, O Savior, free us from the unseen enemy and save us. [GOASD]

Utukufu. Sasa. Wimbo wa Mzazi-Mungu

Glory. Both now. Theotokion.

Who ever heard of a mother who was virgin? Who ever knew of a virgin who was a mother? Everything about you is extraordinary, O Theotokos. Therefore with faith we magnify you. [GOASD]

Sauti 2.

Aposticha. Mode 2. For compunction.

When I think about the unnatural vices I have committed, I imitate the Publican, the weeping Harlot, and the Prodigal Son, and I have recourse to your tender mercies. And so I fall before you, O merciful Lord, and pray before You condemn me, that You spare me and have mercy on me. [SD]

Mstari Asubuhi tumejazwa na huruma yako, Ee Bwana; [[SWA]]

Verse: We were filled with Your mercy in the morning, and in all our days we greatly rejoiced and were glad; gladden us in return for the days You humbled us, for the years we saw evil things. And behold Your servants and Your works, and guide their sons. [SAAS]

Overlook my transgressions, O Lord born of a Virgin, and purify my heart, and make it temple of Your Holy Spirit. I implore You whose mercy is immense, that You do not reject me from Your presence. [SD]

Mstari Ubora wa Bwana Mungu wetu uwe juu yetu; atuongoze kwa kazi ya mikono yetu; hata kazi ya mikono yetu Aiongoze. [[SWA]]

Verse: And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the works of our hands. [SAAS]

For the Martyrs.

O medal-winning Martyrs, for Christ you suffered to the point of death. Now your souls are in heaven in the hand of God, and your relics are processed throughout the world. Clergy and world leaders venerate them, and all people rejoice, and we shout the well known verse: “Precious sleep in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints.” [SD]
